In this modern era, technology has become more sophisticated. All information can be accessed quickly and efficiently. Nevertheless, when surfing the internet to search for information, people frequently find it almost similar and even have no different. Moreover, to news information content on the internet, similarities are found in final semester student research titles and abstracts as well. In preventing this, the researchers explored how to establish a website design by checking the similarity of titles and abstracts with winnowing method, which is exacted to complete examining the similarity of titles and abstracts on students' final assignments. The researchers applied dummy data obtained from Google Scholar for this study. The results revealed that the application of the winnowing method can aid in achieving similar results from the student's final assignments. It is deliberated as a benchmark for accepting a title and abstract at a university and reducing plagiarism

Over recent years, there has been an explosive growth of interest in the pattern recognition. For example, handwritten signature is one of human biometric that can be used in many areas in terms of access control and security. However, handwritten signature is not a uniform characteristic such as fingerprint, iris or vein. It may change to several factors; mood, environment and age. Signature Verification System (SVS) is a part of pattern recognition that can be a solution for such situation. The system can be decomposed into three stages: data acquisition and preprocessing, feature extraction and verification. This paper presents techniques for SVS that uses Freeman chain code (FCC) as data representation. In the first part of feature extraction stage, the FCC was extracted by using boundary-based style on the largest contiguous part of the signature images. The extracted FCC was divided into four, eight or sixteen equal parts. In the second part of feature extraction, six global features were calculated. Finally, verification utilized k-Nearest Neighbour (k-NN) to test the performance. MCYT bimodal database was used in every stage in the system. Based on our systems, the best result achieved was False Rejection Rate (FRR) 14.67%, False Acceptance Rate (FAR) 15.83% and Equal Error Rate (EER) 0.43% with shortest computation, 7.53 seconds and 47 numbers of features

The mobile-based apps used is getting popular and continued to increased. Mobile user often downloaded the apps from various sources that provided from numerous of categorization of the application included health apps. Some of apps is optional to choose, but nevertheless, there are several apps is compulsory or must-action by citizens as instructed by the government or their agency. As for that, some issues of legal challenges on data privacy kin to data security have occurred. The issues on legal challenges is more intricate for non-legal educated users with non-awareness citizens while there are government involvements. Hence, in this paper, the issues and the legal challenges on the data privacy for mobile-based application are reviewed to give awareness for both side, the users (citizens) and apps provider (government or developer). Together with that, the idea of action, such as recommendation and option to react with the issues and challenges are also presented. Several Acts (legislation) are also proposed according to the legal issues and challenges that occurred, as showed the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010 is became as the famous act used to confront with the existing privacy legislation in mobile-based application. The suggestions and recommendations might assist citizens to keep stand with their rights on data privacy issues in mobile apps, and to the other-side, it might provide some idea be more precise when create and develop the mobile apps.</p

Abstract -There are a lot of intensive researches on handwritten character recognition (HCR) for almost past four decades. The research has been done on some of popular scripts such as Roman, Arabic, Chinese and Indian. In this paper we present a review on HCR work on the four popular scripts. We have summarized most of the published paper from 2005 to recent and also analyzed the various methods in creating a robust HCR system. We also added some future direction of research on HCR

A Comparison Study of Biogeography based Optimization for Optimization Problems

    Get PDF
Abstract Most optimization problems have constraints. The solutions of the problem are obtained from the final results of the search space that have satisfied the given constraints. In such cases, heuristic algorithms are capable to find the estimated solutions, but sometimes they have some limitations. This paper investigates the performance of three heuristic optimization methods: Biogeography Based Optimization (BBO), Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for solving the optimization problems. We compare these algorithms in terms of their convergence time and their performance in avoiding local minima on fourteen benchmark functions. These benchmark functions are used to test optimization procedures for multidimensional and continuous optimization task. The findings reveal that BBO is a promising optimization tool that can deal with the complex optimization problems

Classification of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder using variational autoencoder

    Get PDF
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) categorize as one of the typical neurodevelopmental and mental disorders. Over the years, researchers have identified ADHD as a complicated disorder since it is not directly tested with a standard medical test such as a blood or urine test on the early-stage diagnosis. Apart from the physical symptoms of ADHD, clinical data of ADHD patients show that most of them have learning problems. Therefore, functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is considered the most suitable method to determine functional activity in the brain region to understand brain disorders of ADHD. One of the ways to diagnose ADHD is by using deep learning techniques, which can increase the accuracy of predicting ADHD using the fMRI dataset. Past attempts of classifying ADHD based on functional connectivity coefficient using the Deep Neural Network (DNN) result in 95% accuracy. As Variational Autoencoder (VAE) is the most popular in extracting high-level data, this model is applied in this study. This study aims to enhance the performance of VAE to increase the accuracy in classifying ADHD using fMRI data based on functional connectivity analysis. The preprocessed fMRI dataset is used for decomposition to find the region of interest (ROI), followed by Independent Component Analysis (ICA) that calculates the correlation between brain regions and creates functional connectivity matrices for each subject. As a result, the VAE model achieved an accuracy of 75% on classifying ADHD
